In December 1993 the Nordic power exchange Nord Pool (then called Statnett Market) started project EDK, electronic data communication in the power industry. The desire was to standardize the information between the energy exchange and its customers. In the fall 1997 the requirement for use of Ediel standard was included in the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy plant guidelines.
The power industry is vulnerable to strong competition and price pressure, and everyone is concerned, and focused on improving margins, increasing earnings and improving customer service. Companies seek solutions that reduce costs and streamline daily life. Our customers operate in a market characterized by frequent changing of suppliers, changes in customer data, clearing and settlement balances.
Authorities require that the players in the power industry exchange data electronically, specifically through the use of EDIEL ® (EDI formats MSCONS, PRODAT, UTILTS, UTILMD, INVOICES and APERAK).
EDIEL ® is a standard for the use of EDI in the energy industry. This includes standards for message types, communication and security. EDIEL is using an extract of the EDIFACT messages where appropriate document types for the power market is defined. EDIEL is based on the well established EDIFACT standard. We have also provided solutions to operators in the European gas market.
